Cradle cap is a build up of natural oils which forms a yellow crust on the baby’s scalp. This build up can easily be avoided by regularly massaging the top of your baby’s head when shampooing.
If your baby already has cradle cap, it is suggested that you rub oil into her scalp twice a day, leaving it to soak in and soften the crust.
Once the scaly skin begins to lift, comb it out. Always comb from the front to the back of the head away from the face. Wash his hair thoroughly once a day and apply more oil till all flaking skin is removed.
Continue to regularly massage while washing baby’s hair to avoid cradle cap from recurring. Using a soft baby brush will also help massage the scalp and remove any further build up.
Tips: The best oils to use are olive, almond, apricot or any vegetable oil.
Remember: Always wash the soap out of baby’s hair and gently rub dry with a towel. The soft spot is where much of the body heat escapes and needs to be dried immediately to prevent major loss of body heat.
